Investors in People (IiP) Award

This recognition is awarded to schools/businesses that place a lot of emphasis on the development of all staff.

We were first awarded IiP status in November 2000 and in both January 2004 and January 2007 had our status reconfirmed.

Assessment for the award is carried out by an Investors in People Assessor who visits the school and interviews a cross-section of our staff in relation to their training and development.  A report is then written as a result of these interviews.

The report listed areas of particular strength or effective practice:

The following is a list of good practice characteristics or features found during the course of the site visits.  These are recognised as being of good practice or exceeding the requirements of the Investors in People Standard:-

  • The extent to which people are involved
  • The openness of the school and the quality of communication
  • The strong teamwork
  • The on-going commitment to the learning and development of all people
  • The receptiveness to the ideas of people
  • The trust which all people are shown and the value in which they are held
  • The feedback that they receive which helps in their development as well as recognises their achievement
  • The outcomes of the well-being survey
  • The use of test lessons as part of the teacher appointment procedure.

“Healthy Schools” Accreditation

On July 14th 2004 we received our Healthy School accreditation. This means that we have been recognised as providing our children with a culture and environment to support P.S.H.E. (Personal, Social and Health Education) and Citizenship. Examples of this are our teaching of SRE (Sex and Relationships Education), Drug Education, our School Council and the importance that we place on P.E. (Physical education) both during and after school. We also provide our children with bottled water to drink during the day and we are also part of the Free Fruit for Schools initiative.
