YEAR 3 NEWSLETTER
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back after the Easter break! I hope you all had a restful holiday.
The following is an overview of the subjects and activities we will be covering this half term.
In Literacy we will be looking at different stories and we will be focusing on the characters, setting, illustrations and the language used. The children will explore different types of sentences and the effect of varying sentence length. As always, reading is a huge support to the aspects of literacy we will be studying this half term.
In Numeracy we will continue to solve problems for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The children will be expected to recall the 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-, 6- and 10-times tables and derive the related division facts. They will find remainders after division and decide when to round up or down. They will continue to develop their written methods for multiplication and division. Time will also be spent on reinforcing the children’s understanding of fractions and 2D and 3D shapes.
In Science we will look at what plants need to grow successfully. This will involve an understanding of how plants work and the conditions needed for growth.
In ICT we are looking at emails. The children will be given opportunities to read, write and send emails. In addition to this, they will learn how to attach a document to an email.
We have an exciting new History topic this term of the Romans. We will be looking at how and why they invaded and what effects this had on the country. We will also be looking at comparisons between the Romans and the Celts and how they lived their daily lives. We will also be examining their clothes, weapons and houses.
In P.E we will be learning striking and fielding games, in particular rounders. The children will be learning the skill of bowling, batting and fielding accurately. P.E. lessons are this term on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Can you please ensure that your child is wearing suitable shoes as we will be doing P.E outside.
In PSHE (personal, social, health, social education) the children will be having appropriate sex and relationships education focusing on self-esteem, challenging gender stereotypes, differences, decision making and safety. If you have any concerns about these areas of study please come and speak to me.
We are continuing our exciting work in our Music lessons with Year 3 being taught how to play recorders. Lessons are on a Tuesday so please remind your child to bring their recorder.
In Art the children will continue to look at embroidery, exploring different patterns and shapes.
Our R.E topic this term is Buddhism. We will continue to learn about Buddha’s life, enlightenment, teaching and death.
Every Friday your child will have homework sent home. Homework given out will be based on what we have already covered in class and will need to be handed in on the following Wednesday at the latest.
I hope you find this information useful. If you have any questions, concerns or problems please do not hesitate to come and see me. I am usually available between 3:30 and 4:00 on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Kind Regards,
Ann-Katrin
