YEAR 4 NEWSLETTER
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back. I am looking forward to another hard working and exciting half term in Year 4.
In Literacy we will be reading, writing and performing a selection of plays. This will include performing to other classes and also making puppets for a puppet show. We will also look at information texts and identify the key features. We will link our work to our Geography topic, St Lucia.
Please continue to encourage your child to read to you as often as possible.
In Numeracy we will continue to practise different ways to add, subtract, multiply and divide. The children will develop the use of appropriate mathematical language to explain the methods they have used. We will also be comparing simple fractions, decimals and percentages.
It is vital that your child has a really secure knowledge of times tables so please continue to support them with this.
In Science our topic is Forces. The children will learn what forces exist and how they affect and make an object move. They will conduct some group investigations and learn how to record this information using appropriate scientific language.
The children will also use the laptops to research more about and to support their findings.
In Geography we will continue with our topic on St Lucia and in particular the way of life for the children who live there. They will look at how the people of the island earn their living and how that compares and contrasts to life here. We will use artefacts, books and ICT in order to find out more about life in St Lucia.
In RE the children will continue to learn about Christianity. They will understand the importance of a church and what religious articles and symbols can be found in one. They will also learn about the Easter Story.
In ICT we will continue to use the lap tops for research purposes. The children will learn to save and edit work using the appropriate tools.
In PSHE the children will continue to develop the social skills of friendship, working well together in a group and managing anger and resolving conflict.
In Art the children will use a variety of medium including paints and watercolours to produce topic linked art work.
In PE, linking with PSHE, the children will play team games in order to improve skills of working as part of a team. They will continue to practise throwing and catching skills.
For the first 3 weeks of this half term, Stephanie, A PGCE student will be responsible for the majority of the teaching. Please do not hesitate to talk to her, or to make an appointment with me, if you wish to discuss your child.
Best Wishes
Lucy
